Park was crowded on the weekend, but it really thinned out by Sunday. This lake is enormous with many power boats. Our focus was kayaking and as long as you stayed at the shore, you were ok. The sites were spacious and many were on the lake. We stayed in #16 which had easy access for our kayaks. Other than the lake, there are not alot of trails for hiking: but it's enjoyable. It would be nice if they upgraded the shower curtains as they do not completely cover.

We camped on site # 74 which backed up to the marsh area. It was a large and mostly private site. The beach has great shelling and we kayaking in the creek: but be aware and careful of the tide schedule. It was quite relaxing, not commercial at all! I would recommend this campground highly.

Staff was very helpful and we were able to look at several sights prior to setting up. We chose this park due to the ability to kayak almost right out from the site. The river was absolutely wonderful! Slow moving, wooded on both sides and the fish were jumping. The town of Washington was close and had a very pleasant waterfront area.

Great location for the Outer Banks. You must reserve in advance. Nicely spaced and easy access for North or South Beaches.

Not only are the sites very wooded and well spaced, they are also mostly waterfront. The lake is enormous and the water is beautiful with the mountains in the background. We enjoyed it so much, we have already booked for next summer. This campground is a jewel!
